The HideAway
Coffehouse and Winebar
WHO WE ARE
The HideAway Coffeehouse and Winebar is nestled in the heart of historic downtown Northfield, MN. We take pride in supporting local producers by using fresh, locally sourced ingredients whenever possible—including honey from nearby beekeepers, lettuce from local growers, and a rotating selection of regional craft beers. Our coffee is supplied by True Stone Roasters, who source their beans from small-scale farmers and pay above fair trade prices. Roasted fresh every Wednesday and delivered to our shop on Thursday, their beans ensure every cup we serve is rich, fresh, and full of flavor. Many of our customers also enjoy ordering their favorite blend by the pound to brew at home.

COME VISIT
Mornings and afternoons at The HideAway are filled with the energy of locals, college students, and visitors exploring our charming downtown. In the evening, the pace slows and the ambiance shifts—soft lighting, smooth jazz, and a curated selection of wines, craft beers, and made-to-order appetizers, sandwiches, and desserts create the perfect setting to unwind.
Founders
Joan & Jim Spaulding
The HideAway Coffeehouse and Winebar was established in 2006 by Joan and Jim Spaulding and their six children. From day one, we’ve treated every customer like family. Our welcoming atmosphere, exceptional coffee, and outstanding food have kept people coming back year after year. Over the years, we’ve been honored with several accolades, including "Best in the Midwest" by Midwest Magazine and "Best in Southern Minnesota" by Scene magazine in 2015 and 2016.

In 2019, Sarah, one of Joan and Jim’s daughters, expanded the family tradition by opening The HideAway Vault, located inside Heritage Bank. This cozy sister location offers the convenience of a drive-thru alongside a warm dine-in experience complete with a fireplace, blending comfort and quality in every visit.
In 2025, after nearly two decades of building a beloved community gathering place, Joan and Jim officially retired. The HideAway was passed on to Sarah, who proudly took ownership and remains committed to the vision her parents began—serving great food, coffee, and hospitality in a space that feels like home.
